Hardware Requirements
There are of course "Marine" Notebooks, built according to MilSpecs, they are said to be real heavy duty, but they are fairly expensive and usually do not meet actual hardware standards, besides being heavy bricks.
For the budget sensitive skipper definitely not the right choice.
As long as you don´t use graphics intensive Video Games or Rendering programs I´d recommend nearly every actual standard laptop from a big international brand - the business lines are usually built a bit tougher than consumer products.
I´ve used that meanwhile more than 6 years old Dell Latitude C640 for long years and it is still doing it´s job.
Used laptops start at around 300 Euro here in Germany......new you can start off with 650 - tendency falling.
Look for lot´s of
USB - Ports
,you´ll need them all!
My personal minimum requirement (my Dell):
Processor Pentium IV 1.8 GHz
RAM 512MB
GPU Radeon Mobility 7000 64 MB
80GB IDE HD
For Navigation, SSB Facsimile, Logbook, Internet, Email and Multimedia that´s big enough .....
now where to place it ?
